I am a researcher in distributed systems and security. I write&nbsp;<a href="https://dataintensive.net/">books</a>, develop&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/automerge/automerge">open source software</a>, create&nbsp;<a href="https://martin.kleppmann.com/2020/11/18/distributed-systems-and-elliptic-curves.html">teaching materials</a>, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeKd45zvjcDHJxge6VtYUAbYnvd_VNQCx">give</a> <a href="https://martin.kleppmann.com/talks.html">talks</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeKd45zvjcDFUEv_ohr_HdUFe97RItdiB">lectures</a>, and publish&nbsp;<a href="https://martin.kleppmann.com/#publications">original research</a>. Most of what I do is given away for free (videos, code, research papers), or is very cheap compared to the value you get out of it (such as&nbsp;<a href="https://dataintensive.net/">my book</a>). Some of the things I plan to do over the next few years: <ul><li>Write another book to complement&nbsp;<a href="https://dataintensive.net/">Designing Data-Intensive Applications</a>;</li><li>Develop the&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/automerge/automerge">foundational technologies</a> to enable the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/dtg/trve/">next generation of collaboration software</a> (such as Google Docs), in a way that does not require&nbsp;<a href="https://www.inkandswitch.com/local-first.html">giving Google all of our data</a>;</li><li>Continue writing research papers, blog posts, and giving talks/making educational videos on distributed systems and related topics.</li></ul> Supporting me on Patreon is not a donation, it is an investment.
