Jazz legend Ron Carter
In a career spanning over five decades, Ron Carter has played jazz, classical, soul, and hip-hop. He's won three Grammys and worked with folks like Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, A Tribe Called Quest, and many more.
When Carter joined us back in 2022, he was gearing up to celebrate his 85th birthday at Carnegie Hall. These days, the man is 88 and is unstoppable. He recently released a record with gospel icon Ricky Dillard titled "Sweet, Sweet Spirit." It's a gospel record that also serves as a tribute to Carter's mother.
Carter takes us back to when he first picked up an instrument, the cello, and how he eventually found the bass. He also talks about the time he played bass for A Tribe Called Quest on Low End Theory – and how he gave them the business about swear words.
