Korean-English Language Exchange
Korean-English Language Exchange
Welcome back Chicago Korean-English Language Exchange! Please read these instructions. 1) Do not mention "Korean Language Exchange" to any security guard or building manager. 2) If you're asked why you're entering the building, just say that you're going to buy food from McDonald's, Billy Goat Tavern, Dunkin Donuts. Each of those restaurants is on the second floor. Starbucks is on the first floor, which should be ok. 3) Make a purchase from a food vendor. It doesn't matter how cheap it is, just buy anything. My belief is that if we ALL make purchases from the food vendors, then we ALL have a right to use the space. For safety concerns we ask that you only come if you are fully vaccinated. We will also be breaking off into smaller groups for the time being and doing our usual 15 min Korean, 15 min English structure. We hope to see you there 🥰 Rsvp
Language Exchange 语言交换
Language Exchange 语言交换
Our language meetup is for an exchange of English and Chinese. We have learners of varying levels. At each meeting, we will play some word games and study selected readings together. If you are learning Chinese for the first time it’s helpful to have a grasp of pinyin if you plan to attend. If not, we can set you on the right path once you get here!
Downtown Chicago Sunday Korean-English Free Conversation Table
Downtown Chicago Sunday Korean-English Free Conversation Table
Let’s meet for a language exchange! How it works: We meet at the **7th floor** of the **Harold Washington Public Library** (400 S State St, Chicago) for conversation practice. After brief introductions, we will alternate between 15 minutes of English and 15 minutes of Korean (up to 90 minutes). For those who are new to Korean, we have a separate group that focuses on Korean vocab and basic grammar. Since space is limited, **please RSVP ASAP.** Please contact Tasnim at 614-260-4591 if you have trouble finding us! Also, we highly recommend that you **bring a notebook** with you to jot down new vocabulary words that you learn during conversation (you should then try to master those words as you will use many of the same words over and over again in real-life conversation!). For more information about our group (we also have [dinner parties](https://photos.app.goo.gl/QHvsF1puf4iDupJd7), K-drama discussions, [karaoke](https://photos.app.goo.gl/KKMdzmgwd6v8PQUg6), etc.), visit us on **Instagram** at [https://www.instagram.com/koreanconversationtable/](https://www.instagram.com/koreanconversationtable/) and at our website at [www.koreanconversationtable.org](www.koreanconversationtable.org)

Irksome C++
Irksome C++
**Description** As much as I like C++, it is certainly not free of — let's say — quirks. Both the core language and the standard library exhibit idiosyncrasies, sometimes even in conflict with one another. Some of these "oops" may be historical in origin. However, most are due to the spectrum of viewpoints held by the hundreds of contributors who have participated in C++ standardization to date. This talk points out and discusses many of these inconsistencies and numerous other infelicities in naming, behavior, or both. Come see whether your pet C++ peeve is mentioned! **About the presenter** With broad experience in industry, academia, consulting, and research, Dr. Walter E. Brown has been a computer programmer for more than 60 years, and a C++ programmer for over 40 years. He joined the C++ standards effort in 2000, and has since written more than 175 proposal papers. Among numerous other contributions, he is responsible for introducing such now-standard C++ library features as * \`cbegin\`/\`cend\`, * \`common_type\`, * \`gcd\`/\`lcm\`, * \`void_t\`, * cmath’s mathematical special functions, * as well as the headers random and ratio. He has also significantly impacted such C++ core language features as alias templates, contextual conversions, variable templates, \`static_assert\`, and \`operator<=>\` (the "spaceship operator"). When not playing with his grandchildren, Dr. Brown continues as an Emeritus participant in the C++ standards process and as a frequent speaker at C++ meetups and conferences worldwide. **Details** ***NOTE!*** The timing for this event deviates from historical norms! In particular, the presentation will precede the social hour and the social hour will take place at a second location! Please read the details, carefully This event is for in-person attendance. For virtual attendance, please see the [alternative page](https://www.meetup.com/chicago-c-cpp-users-group/events/313287164). Space is limited! RSVP is required for in-person attendance! When: Thursday, February 19th Doors open at 4:15pm, presentation begins at 4:45pm 181 West Madison Street 18th floor Chicago, Illinois 60602 Social hour at Cardozo's after the presentation: 170 W Washington St Chicago, IL 60602 This event has been graciously sponsored by [Selby Jennings](https://www.selbyjennings.com/)
