Emerson's Circles
Emerson's Circles
Emerson's "Circles" explores the circular character of self-transcendence where every understanding admits of being outdone. We may ask the same questions about the same topics yet our understanding looks different each time we return anew. Emerson suggests that individuals can break out of the "deadly repetition" of life by embracing new ideas and experiences. Circles" is considered one of Emerson's most important works and is often seen as a meditation on the cyclical nature of existence and the importance of growth and self-discovery. The essay is regarded as a seminal text in American literature and continues to be read and studied today. Conversation is a game of circles. Can we help each other see past our own Saturnine rings? Please read in advance. We will discuss together. No volleyball. Prez day
No volleyball. Prez day
Staton Park Indoor Volleyball is back! Welcome to those that have been playing here for years and to the those playing here for the first time. Please note - this is competitive. I know there is a lot to read but we want to make sure this is a safe place to play and that everyone has fun and we are all the same level. We start play officially at 6:15 but sooner if we get set-up fast. We stop play around 7:45 - 7:50. The faster WE set-up and get teams picked the more we can play. We have to turn the lights out by 8pm. Cost: $10 At least 6 games a night. We are looking for B level at a minimum but prefer higher. If you are B, we hope you are trying to get to BB. We ask that players are of a competitive nature, as this it not recreational volleyball. We will ask lower level playe rs to return when they increase their skill level. Please don't be offended by this. This is for safety and to keep the skill level consistent. We play hard and, most important, we have fun! If you haven't played in awhile, feel free to join us. We will get you back into it. 2. Prebooking: Players with a proven B or BB level of play will get first dibs at pre-booking - exception will be repeat offenders for no-shows or cancellations. 3. NO-SHOW: Please don't! A no-show is any reservation canceled on Monday that is not filled by someone. So, if you leave us hanging, you are on the hook. If you can't make it, please email me in the Meet-up message center. 4. WAIT-LIST: WAIT-LIST WAIT-LIST Once we max out, the reservation limit will be lowered. This is the only way to turn off the auto-waitlist. I wish there was a better way The day of the event, the people on the waitlist will be switched to "not-going". WHY? Here is why: After everyone is switched I increase the maximum back to 24 which then turns on the Auto-waitlist. Everyone can now rejoin the waitlist group. Now, if someone cancels the day off and if you are on the waitlist you know you can play that night -right?! It happens all the time that someone that signs up for the waitlist days prior, forgets they are on the list on Monday. The the auto-list moves the up and then we have a no-show : ( New players: If you are a first timer you do need to confirm you can make it. I know some meetups have extras so no shows are ok but we play with exactly 24. I**f you have your Meet-up privacy settings setup to not be contacted by assistant organizers I might drop you since I can't confirm with you. Please change that or add your email to your RSVP.** * USE THIS ADDRESS TO MAP IT: 617 W Evergreen Ave, Chicago, IL Enter from Clybourn - see photo. The parking lot is small and it will be packed. Additional parking in front (north) of the boarded up church. Free parking. Don't use Google or a map finder as it gives you directions to the school. The natatorium is behind the school on Scott. You can enter from the west (by basketball courts) or east (parking lots) side of the building. There are lockers, showers, and a pool here. Let's go! Serv-it-up!

Psychology and Alchemy, Part I by Carl Jung
Psychology and Alchemy, Part I by Carl Jung
There is in the analytical process, that is to say in the dialectical discussion between the conscious mind and the unconscious, a development or an advance towards some goal or end, the perplexing nature of which has engaged my attention for many years. - Jung In this book, Jung argues the symbolism of Alchemy as being intimately related to the psychoanalytical process. He shows how the symbols used by the Alchemists occur in the psyche as part of the reservoir of mythological images drawn upon by the individual in their dream states. He illustrates that this use of mythological images ties together in the western collective subconscious. Jung draws an analogy between the Great Work of the Alchemists and the process of reintegration and individuation of the psyche in the modern psychiatric patient. In drawing these parallels Jung reinforces the universal nature of his theory of the archetype and makes an impassioned argument for the importance of spirituality in the psychic health of the modern man. Lavishly illustrated with images, drawings and paintings from Alchemy and other mythological sources including Christianity the book is another example of Jung's immense erudition and fascination with the eso- and exoteric expressions of spirituality and the psyche in religion and mysticism. We will be looking at just Part I of the work. The focus will be on approaching this from a philosophical point of view, and assessing it both a philosophic insight as well as philosophic impact if true of pyschology [Collected Works of C.G. In-Person Reiki Practice & Share
In-Person Reiki Practice & Share
We'll start off with introductions to help build the community, and by sending Reiki out into the world, then we'll share Reiki with each other. Following the Reiki, we'll share experiences, feedback, knowledge, and community with others on their Reiki path. We look forward to sharing with you! If you're new to Reiki, come with an open heart and questions. If you've taken Reiki class(es), come to practice what you've learned in a supportive space—and receive some Reiki in the bargain. Either way, it'll be a healing adventure. If it's your first time, please continue reading. The Reiki Brigade has offered nearly 8,000 Reiki sessions to highly stressed communities (CPD, CFD, incarcerated youth, homeless veterans, violence interrupters, etc.) since 2011. As part of our outreach, we invite recipients to join us at our monthly Reiki Shares, and encourage them to take a Reiki class, as a means to help them be more self-sufficient in their healing process. More than 30 volunteers are active in the Reiki Brigade. These Shares are open to anyone who has taken at least one Reiki class. Reiki-curious folks are welcome to attend one Share to get a feel for the practice. We ask that you take a class if you'd like to participate beyond one event, as these are meant for receiving and giving Reiki. Classes are listed in this Meetup calendar. **ADDITIONAL DETAILS:** » The event begins at 7:00pm. There is a security system and you will need to be buzzed in (Here's the Rub: #019), therefore arrive after introductions at your own risk. The buzzer inner may be blissing out with Reiki. =0) » Contribution: $10 donation suggested to help defer Reiki Brigade operating expenses (no one turned away for lack of funds) » Travel: There is plenty of free parking, and we're around the corner from the Irving Park Brown Line stop. It's easy. » Please Note: Photography, audio and/or video recording may take place at this event; your participation grants the host irrevocable and unrestricted rights to use and publish these materials.
