Let’s watch Pretty in Pink 40th Anniversary!
******The movie starts at 5pm, but we’re meeting beforehand in the lobby at 4:30pm**. Tickets are available! There are no trailers before the movie 🎥 so it will start at 5 pm. **After the show join us for a discussion about the film! Look for me with a Meetup sign in a green coat with a blue scarf****** _With a screenplay by John Hughes, “The Breakfast club” this movie is a classic heartbreaking high school love story. _Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer and Andrew Mccarthy are iconic In these roles and this was a movie that left a lasting impression on a generation. “The movie stars Molly Ringwald as Andie Walsh, a poor girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Her mother bailed out of her life years earlier, and she lives with her unemployed father (Harry Dean Stanton), whose first words after she wakes him one morning are, “Where am I?” Andie works in a record store in a downtown mall and wears fashions that seem thrown together by a collision between a Goodwill store and a 1950s revival. Andie attends a high school where most of the kids are wealthy snobs, and she has a crush on a rich kid named Blane (Andrew McCarthy).”

The Route: From the south going north: The Green Bay Trail is a forested, sometimes heavily forested, asphalt/gravel/dirt sided RR frontage with some gorgeous residential streets in the beginning and lots of well-groomed "hidden" parks. We start in Wilmette, walk through Kenilworth and turnaround in Winnetka. Tiger lily's are everywhere in the summer, autumn colors can be fantastic, winter is dark and deep and spring is a... tease! 3: We meet, at 10 am, in the Wilmette Metra Parking Lot at its NORTH-END. Directly across from the Wilmette Fire Station. Parking is free on weekends. 4. Applicable outdoor masking & social distancing rules may apply. Currently, outdoor masking is purely optional. 5: FYI: Our Treks are ALWAYS scheduled for the THIRD Sunday of the month excluding January (too cold) and August (too hot). Film Discussion Lunch: Sean Baker
Film Discussion Lunch: Sean Baker
Sean Baker has one of the most fascinating director trajectories in recent history - from microscopically-budgeted independent efforts to Oscar winners, and in between advancing the possibilities of filmmaking with "Tangerine" (made entirely with footage from iPhone cameras). Throughout he's shown an emphasis (and empathy) with people and groups on the margins of society. This month we'll take a look at how he maintained that focus while growing as a filmmaker, as we look at these following films of his: "Hi Fi" (2000 - short): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lyADpeQHJw "Take Out" (2004 - co-directed with Shih-Ching Tsou): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMp5Vw6FfWE "Prince of Broadway" (2008): https://fawesome.tv/movies/10376378/prince-of-broadway "Starlet" (2012): https://canela.tv/player/movie/starlet-2013 (Spanish-language site, but film is in English, also on Apple and Criterion) "Tangerine" (2015) (Free on Kanopy and Hoopla, also Amazon, Apple & YouTube) "The Florida Project" (2017) (Free on Hoopla, also Amazon, Apple & YouTube) "Red Rocket (2021): https://watch.plex.tv/watch/movie/red-rocket (Free on Hooplah, also Amazon, Apple, & Netflix) "Anora" (2024): (Free on Kanopy, also on Amazon, Apple, and Disney+ (For maximum irony))
Nick Davis: The Director's Influence on 4 Oscar Films
Nick Davis: The Director's Influence on 4 Oscar Films
With his film lecture series at the Alliance Francaise, professor Nick Davis has continuously provided a thoroughly informative and fun look at movie topics ranging from Romanian films to the value of set design to underseen 2025 gems to Asian American romances to the films of auteurs from Steve McQueen to Lynne Ramsay to Bong Joon-ho. In this session he aims his focus squarely upon the director's influence of four movies getting Oscar attention: "Hamnet", "Sinners", "Sentimental Value", and "One Battle After Another". How does the direction enhance or illuminate the themes of each film, or adds to the energy and feelings the film wants to present? Nick will guide the group through key scenes in each film and shows the directorial choices that helped make them the most remarkable films of 2025! After the 90 minute lecture we'll head to the nearby Centennial on 733 N. LaSalle to talk about Nick's impressions and our own impressions of the great directing movies and moments of 2025, as well as how the four Nick discussed match others in the work of those directors. Admission to the lecture is FREE, but it's recommended to register for the event so they can better keep track of attendance, which you can do by following this link: https://www.chicagofilmfestival.com/event/diggingdeeper-oscars2026/
