In Sri Lanka, CIFOR-ICRAF’s work focuses on promoting agroforestry and nature-based solutions that align with national climate resilience, land restoration and green-growth priorities to address interconnected challenges of biodiversity loss, food insecurity and rural poverty.
Our approach combines scientific research, capacity development and policy engagement, ensuring that the benefits of trees on farms extend from households to the national economy.
Working closely with the Government of Sri Lanka, universities, development partners and local communities, CIFOR-ICRAF applies its global science, policy insights and digital innovations to local contexts – supporting the country’s vision for a greener, more inclusive, and resilient future.
By connecting global knowledge with local action, World Agroforestry (ICRAF) Sri Lanka serves as a catalyst for transforming landscapes into productive, sustainable and climate-smart ecosystems.
On 14 September 2022, ICRAF and the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka signed a Host Country Agreement formalizing over two decades of collaboration and their shared commitment to green growth.
ICRAF is a delivery partner in the development of Sri Lanka’s ‘readiness duties’ for the Green Climate Fund, and is supporting the implementation of the country’s National Adaptation Plan and its Nationally Determined Contribution to meet climate change challenges.
