Established in 1993, the CIFOR-ICRAF office in the Philippines has been recognized for its extensive experience in farming systems, natural resource management and biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, forest and landscape restoration, and payment for ecosystem services (PES). The country office supports the government – particularly the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Agriculture, Climate Change Commission, and local governments – with expert advice and capacity building at both senior and field levels. It also works closely with the Global Evergreening Alliance, Oscar M. Lopez Center, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) at Los Baños, and other CGIAR research centres.
Research topics include: agroforestry, mangroves and blue carbon, community-based forestry, and landscape restoration. CIFOR-ICRAF supports the Philippines’ forest and landscape restoration programme through technical designs of conservation farming and agroforestry models, road mapping for sustainable commodities, webinar series, and policy recommendations.
