Sustainability is a decisive competitive advantage these days, and the Austrian winter sports sector is proof positive that environment and economics aren’t mutually exclusive, as the following examples ably demonstrate: 90% of the energy used for technical snow-making is generated from renewable energy sources; Austrian cable cars are up to 100% electromobility-based; and the cable car segment has been able to reduce its energy consumption by 20% over the last ten years.

In addition to environmentally friendly solutions, there is now a strong focus on social inclusion, and innovations in monoskis and bi-skis combined with accessible infrastructure are opening up Alpine areas and making them more accessible for as many people as possible, with the motto “there is no such word as ‘can’t’”. The entire service chain should be accessible and conform to the “two senses” principle, from booking accommodation and lift passes to the services on offer in the hotel and the ski school, which also offer “no handicap” courses.
