The Economic Chambers of Austria are working towards compliance with the accessibility requirements defined in the Web Accessibility Act (WZG) as amended to implement the Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 October 2016 on barrier-free access to the websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies (OJ L 327 from 2 Dec. 2016, p. 1).
This accessibility statement applies to the website: https://www.advantageaustria.org
Status of compatibility with the requirements
This website is partially compliant with compliance level AA of the "Web Accessibility Guidelines – " and with the applicable European Standard EN 301 549 V2.1.2 (2018-08; pdf document) respectively, due to the following incompatibilities and exceptions.
Non‑freely Accessible Content
The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons:
Videos & Documents
- Videos (captions prerecorded): Some videos are embedded via external hosts (YouTube, Vimeo) and lack captions so the spoken content is not available for deaf users. Thus, WCAG success criterion 1.2.2 (captions prerecorded) is not met. We plan to increase the provision of subtitles in the production of new videos.
- PDF and Office documents: Many documents are not accessible. For example, PDF documents are not tagged, so that they cannot or only insufficiently be captured and used by screen reader users. This means that WCAG success criterion 4.1.2 name, role, value (A) is not met. A transition to accessible alternatives is planned for many documents; new PDFs will be produced accessibly. For older non-accessible documents, no comprehensive change is currently planned. Please let us know if you have difficulties with specific documents. We will prepare the content barrier-free on request and replace the documents in sequence or supplement them with barrier-free alternatives. For older non-accessible documents, no comprehensive change is currently planned. Please let us know if you have difficulties with specific documents. We will provide the content barrier-free on request and replace the documents or supplement them with barrier-free alternatives.
Keyboard Accessibility & Focus Management
- Some interactive elements (buttons, close elements, links, logos, slider navigation, accordions, videos, filters, sector selection, country selection, “Load more”, etc.) do not provide a visible or sufficiently visible focus indicator, or are not reachable via keyboard. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA) and 2.1.1 Keyboard (A).
- In several modal dialogs (e.g. search, video, sector selection, mobile menu), a functional focus trap is missing; focus moves to invisible or off‑screen elements. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard (A), 2.4.3 Focus Order (A) and 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA).
- Hidden or collapsed content (e.g. events) can be reached via the tab key without being visually displayed.
This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 2.4.3 Focus Order (A) and 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence (A). - Skip links to bypass repeated content are missing. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (A).
Colour Contrast & Visual Perception
- Some text and interactive elements (e.g. menu items, links, buttons, copyright notices, “Load more”, “Recommend page”, search filters) have insufficient colour contrast. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (AA) and 1.4.11 Non‑text Contrast (AA).
- Content links are distinguished from body text by colour only. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.4.1 Use of Colour (A).
Text Scaling & Responsive Display
- Font sizes are partly defined using absolute units (px). As a result, text cannot consistently be resized up to 200% without loss. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA) and 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).
Alternative Texts & Non‑text Content
- Numerous images (e.g. news, events, staff photos, logos, video thumbnails) lack alternative text or provide insufficient descriptions. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.1.1 Non‑text Content (A).
- Generic alternative texts such as “Logo” are used repeatedly, providing no meaningful information and not describing the link purpose. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.1.1 Non‑text Content (A) and 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) (A).
- Controls such as slider dots, previous/next buttons, or social media icons do not have an accessible name. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A) and 1.1.1 Non‑text Content (A).
Forms & Input Elements
- Search fields are partly missing visible or programmatically associated labels. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (A) and 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).
- Buttons without visible or accessible text (e.g. icon‑only buttons) are present. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).
Semantics, Structure & Use of ARIA
- Heading hierarchies are partially semantically inconstistent or are technically compromised by additional elements with role attributes. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).
- ARIA attributes (e.g. aria-labelledby) are sometimes incorrect or implemented without valid references.
This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A). - Screen‑reader‑only headings are sometimes misleading or implemented without a correct aria-level. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A) and 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).
- Duplicate or nested interactive elements (e.g. a button inside a link, duplicated links) result in inconsistent interactions. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A) and 2.4.3 Focus Order (A).
Language Consistency
- Some interface elements and notices appear in English on German‑language pages. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 3.1.2 Language of Parts (AA).
Links & Navigation
- Tab order is in some cases semantically inconsistent or behaves unexpectedly (e.g. Fresh View magazine). This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 2.4.3 Focus Order (A).
