Advocacy Committee

Advocacy Committee: Committee members watch current and pending legislation and respond to requests for information from legislative agencies and other associations and organizations. 

Awards Committee: Awards are presented at the annual ULA conference and chosen based on nominations. Committee members volunteer to help select the award winners from the nominees.

Beehive Book Awards Committee: Administers the Beehive Book Awards, the only children’s choice award for literature in the state of Utah.

Conference Planning Committee: Coordinates program selection and activities for ULA’s Annual Conference.

Continuing Education Committee: To represent ULA on continuing education issues in Utah; to coordinate with the Utah State Library Division in implementing the continuing education directives of the Statewide Advisory Committee on Library and Information Services; to recommend to the Board of Directors specific proposals for association support and expenditures for continuing education opportunities for ULA members; to foster continuing education involvement by ULA members at the annual conference and at least one regional workshop; and to prepare and administer periodic needs assessment surveys.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee: Ensures that EDI is an integral part of every facet of ULA by promoting EDI, providing resources, and advising organization leaders.

Finance Committee: Considers all matters of a financial nature that are referred to the committee. Manages Non-Program Budget and Non-Conference Programming Budget Requests. 

Intellectual Freedom Committee: Creates an awareness of the issues of intellectual freedom, investigates any controversial issue, provides resources for handling problems, and prepares recommendations.

Nominating Committee: Submits to the Board of Directors a list of candidates for the next annual election and prepares master ballots of Association, section and roundtable candidates for distribution.

ULA Paraprofessional Certificate Program: This program is designed to recognize the involvement and contributions of career-oriented library paraprofessionals in Utah and to acknowledge their support of libraries and librarianship. For the purposes of this program, a paraprofessional is defined as a library worker who does not hold a professional library degree.

Past Presidents Committee: All Past Presidents of the Utah Library Association.

Program Board: Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating all programs of the Association and its subunits throughout the year.

Publications Committee: Creates and distributes the newsletter directed to the ULA membership and Utah’s library community.

Committees are formed by the Board to provide specialized guidance and support to Association-wide operations.
