so this is a bunch of LGBT (mostly trans) manga that I think has really good representation and focuses specifically on LGBT characters and issues--so excluding BL, GL! This list will grow as I explore more but for now I just wanted a place to recommend my favorites/ones I think are worth reading!

Very very good! Focuses on gender expression as well as the social tensions trans people face and how it strains their relationships with their friends and family. Some very heavy scenes of depression/self harm and familial rejection.

I remember very little about this manga but from what I recall, it focuses a lot on gender dysphoria, feelings of "otherness", and the awkwardness that comes with trying to form relationships as a closeted trans person. It's very good.

OK HEAR ME OUT. This isn't really supposed to be a queer manga and very much falls into the "genderbend fetish" category of manga, but it accidentally does an actually pretty good representation a genderqueer character questioning both their sexuality and gender? I can't be too specific because of spoilers, but it definitely isn't your typical genderbend manga. I read this one when I was younger and it still stands out to me as a very fun series :)

Memoir by a trans woman about her experience with transition and gender affirming surgery. Very captivating and heartwarming read. Also very informative and interesting both for people who aren't transfem and for people who don't know about the transition process in Japan

Another autobiography by a trans woman living in Japan, documenting her transition and relationship with her husband. It's very cute and the chibi-style art is adorable. A good read if you're curious how the transition process works in Japan. Just be prepared for MASSIVE walls of text.

Trans struggles through the eyes of an ally who has the right idea, but, well...
This one overall I was not a huge fan of but the transfem representation is great, I love Akira so so much. Also yuri bait.

okay I actually....didn't really like this manga. HOWEVER there were elements I enjoyed and I still think it's worth recommending, that's just my opinion. It focuses on feeling like an outsider due to being gay as well as feelings of rage at a homophobic society. It has a very rough start imo but the second half is pretty good and feels very powerful.
