The most famous example of an anime created by a cult. Chouetsu Sekai was created by the doomsday cult Aum Shinrikyo, which has rebranded to Aleph. Aum Shinrikyo carried out the Tokyo subway sarin attack in 1995 where they released the nerve agent, sarin, on three Tokyo Metro lines which killed 14 people, injured 50 people, and caused temporary vision problems for 1,000 people.
