Hey, folks! I'm MeanMrMusician; you can call me Musician or Mark. I'm 22 years old, I'm from San Antonio, Texas, and I'm an aspiring music teacher. I play guitar and keyboard (well enough to accompany myself - not trained in classical, jazz, etc.), but I'm in the process of learning many others as part of my music ed degree.
I started watching anime and reading manga in 2021; my first anime and manga were Great Pretender and One Punch Man, respectively. I consumed a ton of it in 2021 and 2022; since then, I haven't been as compelled to power through series, but I'm trying to fall in love with it again.
Overall, I'm a pretty approachable guy as long as you're a kind person. If you ever wanna chat or be friends, send me a comment! PMs are discouraged as I think of those as more intimate. Either way, I'm unlikely to accept a friend request if we've never spoken before. Cheers!

They did (especially Integra) but the characters in my favorites just mean a lot more to me. One character who was close to making it in my favorites was Seras. I thought she was hilarious and her character development was amazing. Every character in Hellsing was great though.
Thanks! And yeah, have been doing pretty well as of late, those anxiety and OCD problems I used to have are basically long gone as of now. Now-a-days I don't have any problems binging anime on a regular basis.
Honestly, I wish more dubs would include accents today. Preferably hiring actors who actually have those accents for added authenticity, but I'm honestly fine either way.
IDK, maybe I'm still salty about JoJo's dub ditching the accents after season 1, lol.
I didn't think Revy was too bad, honestly. She's pretty fun, especially early on, IMO! I'd say my biggest complaint is that she ends-up taking away a lotta screentime from the other characters, especially Dutch and Benny. But she's the face of the series, so I can kinda forgive it.
Well, Black Lagoon's the only dub I've seen with a "C"-bomb, so that's definitely a plus, since my sense of humor clearly never graduated highschool. X'D
Even knowing in advance that Rock was voiced by Braid Swaile, I was still completely floored starting episode 1 and hearing Light Yagami narrating, LMAO.
In-general, I think Ocean had really good dubbing skills, and it's a shame they went out of business, or stopped getting hired, or whyever it is that I never see them around anymore. 'Course, that does make it a little hard for me not to associate the VAs with the extremely small list of characters I recognize them from. Gretel in particular having the same voice as Mii from PO-PO-TAN (who is such a completely different character that it's almost funny) made their scenes even more enjoyable for me.
I'm sure the inclusion of slurs in the script might turn some people off, but I've never personally been one to be bothered by fictional characters doing bad things, so long as the story itself isn't framing them as something audiences should admire, and I think slurs (and the use of other strong language in-general) definitely adds to Black Lagoon's gritty, "edgy" nature in a way that feels realistic and pretty unique, since dubbers nowadays (understandably) tend to avoid such language.
Overall, I think the dub is extremely high-quality, and I definitely understand how it gained a reputation as one of the best English dubs! I think my only complaint - and it's pretty minor - would be Balalaika's accent. Most of the time, the VA's using (what I assume is) their natural voice, but then they occasionally seem to try to give her the appropriate Russian accent. I mean, both voices sound fine and fit Balalaika really well, IMO, but the flip-flopping between the two is kinda distracting. But, again, that's a super minor complaint, and certainly not enough to ruin my enjoyment of her scenes or of her character or anything!
Greenback Jane's pretty good too, I'd say! Sawyer's a badass, lol.
I'd say my favorite character was probably Hansel/Gretel. I've always had a soft spot for villains with messed-up backstories, after-all! XD Plus having two cannibal serial-killers picking-off lots of people in a small city while several factions try to hunt them down gave me serious Pukin and Sonia Bean (from Magical Girl Raising Project's third arc) vibes, which is a plus. XD
From the Lagoon Company, I'd say Dutch was my favorite! I wish he got to do more, because every time he was on-screen was a delight, IMO. Rock's a pretty close second.
As for my least-favorite... I really couldn't care less for Shane from RBT. I think he oscillated between either "boring" or "accidentally unlikeable" for the most part. In terms of characters from the first two seasons, I'd probably say Yukio. Basically all of my problems with the Yakuza arc boil down to her characterization. Not only did I find the scene where she tells Rock that he's "in the twilight" to be way too on-the-nose, but I also found it completely contradicted how she'd been presented up 'til that point, in a way which doesn't feel intentional and which I don't think she recovered from as the arc progressed.
I see. Well, I hope this production goes well, also! :D
Thanks! This past year, basically all I've written is fanfic, so it's refreshing to be working on an original story again, while the inspiration's still flowing!
I thought Black Lagoon had its ups and downs, but I definitely enjoyed it for the most part! The episodes with the U-boat, Roberta's first appearance and everything with the vampire twins were great, IMO! The only times I really felt the show dragged were the yakuza plotline from the end of season 2 and the last couple of episodes of Roberta's Blood Trail. I mean, unfortunately for me, those are the two longest arcs, but I still think the good stuff in the series outweighed the bad!
Good luck with the degree! I'm sure you'd be a great music teacher! You're pretty knowledgeable about music, after-all! ^U^
I hope you have fun with this production of Hadestown, too! Will anyone-else from the last production be there, or is this one entirely separate?
Jade and I have been pretty decent, I'd say. The end of the year's definitely our busiest time, what with Halloween, our birthday and Christmas basically being back-to-back. XD Plus new Pokémon games always releasing in October or November whenever the time comes, lol.
That aside, I started writing another new novel again in October, for the first time in nearly 3 years! I've barely even reached the actual plot yet, and it's already longer than one of my previously-released webnovels! XD
We're also both taking part in an anime secret-Santa event over on another website, and that's been fun, so far!

Thought you might be interested to hear that I just watched all of Black Lagoon! :)
