Watching Rurouni Kenshin Meiji Kenkaku Romantan Tsuioku-hen feels less like watching a typical anime and more like watching a beautifully crafted historical film. What stands out is the tone. This OVA goes all in on a dark, tragic atmosphere, and personally, thatâs one of the things I liked the most about it. The story doesnât try to soften the brutality of the era or the emotional weight of Kenshinâs past. Instead, it embraces that darkness, which makes the entire experience powerful and mature than most anime.
Visually, the OVA is stunning. The animation and direction are cinematic, with detailed backgrounds and carefully composed shots that make
...
every scene deliberate. The sword fights are memorable, not because theyâre flashy, but because they are brutal and realistic. When characters fight, itâs quick, violent, and intense, which fits the story perfectly.
The character writing is another strength. The story focuses mainly on Kenshin and Tomoe, and that smaller focus works in its favor. Their relationship develops in a quiet, intimate way that is natural and deeply tragic. By the time the story reaches its emotional climax, the impact hits hard. Itâs the kind of narrative that sticks with you long after it ends.
The soundtrack also deserves praise. The music does the job of reinforcing the somber mood of the story, whether itâs during quiet emotional moments or tense scenes of violence. Combined with the visuals and pacing, it gives the OVA an atmospheric and immersive feeling.
That said, the show isnât without flaws. The pacing is slow and deliberate, which I found a bit too quiet or drawn out. Because the story focuses mostly on Kenshin and Tomoe, the supporting cast doesnât get much development. And while the historical setting is fascinating, the OVA doesnât always go out of its way to explain the political conflicts of the time, which left me a little confused.
Still, those issues are minor compared to what the OVA does well. Tsuioku-hen succeeds because it commits fully to its tone and storytelling style. The dark atmosphere, emotional depth, and stunning presentation combine to create something special. For me, that bleak and tragic tone is exactly what makes the story so memorable. Itâs not just a great entry in the Rurouni Kenshin franchise; itâs one of the most powerful anime OVAs ever made.

Kenpuu Denki Berserk is one of those anime that sticks with you long after you finish it. What makes it so memorable isnât just the violence or the dark fantasy setting; itâs the characters. The story between Guts, Griffith, and the Band of the Hawk is compelling. Their relationships feel complex and human, and watching how things slowly unfold between them is the heart of the entire show. Guts in particular stands out as a protagonist. Heâs rough, angry, and clearly damaged, but thatâs exactly what makes him interesting to watch.
Another thing the anime does really well is its tone. The whole show has this
...
heavy, grim atmosphere that fits the medieval world itâs set in. It doesnât shy away from mature themes either. The story deals with ambition, betrayal, trauma, and the darker sides of human nature in a way that feels serious compared to a lot of anime from that era. Itâs less about flashy battles and more about the characters and the tragic path they end up walking.
The soundtrack also deserves a lot of praise. The music by Susumu Hirasawa adds a unique mood to the show, especially tracks like âGutsâ and âForces.â They give the story this haunting, almost melancholic feeling that fits the tone perfectly.
For a show from 1997, the animation was also good for its time. Itâs not super flashy by modern standards, but the direction and presentation still hold up well. And I thoroughly enjoyed the gory and graphic moments. The violence can be brutal and sometimes shocking, but it adds to the harshness of the world and makes the battles feel more impactful.
Of course, the moment everyone talks about is the Eclipse. That entire sequence is just unforgettable. Itâs disturbing, tragic, and horrifying, but itâs also one of the most powerful moments in the show.
Overall, Berserk is a classic dark fantasy anime for a reason. Itâs not just about violence or action; itâs a tragic character story set in a brutal world, and itâs effective at what it tries to do.

Tatsuki Fujimoto 17â26 was an interesting watch. It is a look into Fujimotoâs early creative mind before he became famous. You can see the ideas, themes, and weird storytelling tendencies that would later show up in his bigger works. As a fan of his style, that made the series fascinating to sit through.
Visually, the show is really strong. The animation and presentation are superb, especially in the episodes that have fight scenes. Those look fantastic and have that raw, chaotic energy that Fujimoto stories are known for. I wish there were more violent or action heavy episodes, because those ended up being the ones I
...
enjoyed the most. When the show leaned into that darker, brutal side, it was memorable for me.
The themes were a bit mixed for me. Some episodes had interesting ideas and emotional angles, while others were just⦠okay. Not bad, but nothing that really stuck with me. Since itâs an anthology, the quality jumps around depending on the story. Iâd say I only liked around three of the shorts, while the rest were just so so in my opinion.
One thing I did appreciate a lot was how unpredictable the stories could be. Some episodes take weird turns or go in directions you donât expect, which keeps the show from feeling boring. That unpredictability is very much part of Fujimotoâs identity as a storyteller.
My biggest complaint is that some episodes end way too abruptly. A few times it felt like the story was just starting to get interesting, and then it suddenly cuts off. I get that theyâre short stories, but I still wanted a little more development in certain cases.
Overall, Iâd say Tatsuki Fujimoto 17â26 is a cool anthology, especially if youâre curious about Fujimotoâs early work. The visuals are great and a few episodes are really strong, but the quality is uneven. Itâs worth watching, but donât expect every story to hit the same level.

Katanagatari is one of those shows that sticks with you long after you finish it. I went in expecting a cool, stylized sword fighting anime, and it delivers on that front, but itâs more thoughtful and character driven than I expected. Also, the art style is so distinct and unique that it adds to its charm.
However, some of the battles felt way too short. There were moments where I was hyped up for a big clash, and then it was over almost as soon as it started. At first that threw me off, but over time I kind of understood what the show was doing.
...
Itâs less about flashy, drawn out fights and more about the journey, the conversations, and what those confrontations mean for the characters. Still, part of me wanted just a little more action.
What really sold me was Shichikaâs character development. Watching him slowly change over the course of the story emotionally, mentally, and even morally, was satisfying. He starts off so simple and detached, and by the end, he feels like a completely different person. That progression felt natural and earned, not rushed.
The plot twist at the end was good. It recontextualizes so much of what happened before and leaves you sitting there just processing everything. Itâs bold, a little painful, but memorable in the best way. Overall, I really enjoyed the ride. Even with the short fights, the strong writing, character growth, and that unforgettable ending made it absolutely worth it.

I really thought I was going to love Lycoris Recoil. I mean, right from the first episode, it looks incredible. The character designs are appealing, the animation is smooth, and the action scenes are exciting to watch. The gunfights had style, the expressions are lively, and everything just feels polished. Production wise, itâs hard to complain. Itâs one of those shows where you can tell the staff really cared about how it looked.
But man, actually watching it started to feel like work.
The story just didnât grab me the way I expected. It throws in big concepts such as secret government programs, terrorism, and moral gray
...
areas, but never really digs into them in a satisfying way. A lot of plot developments feel convenient, like things happen because the script needs them to happen, not because they naturally build up to that point. Thereâs quite a bit of plot armor too, which makes the stakes feel kind of fake. When intense scenes donât have real consequences, itâs hard to stay invested.
Also, it started to feel like the show was leaning heavily on the âcute girls with gunsâ vibe to carry everything. The chemistry between the main girls is fun, and their personalities are charming, no doubt about that. The cafe slice of life moments are cute and sometimes wholesome. But at some point, it felt like that charm was doing most of the heavy lifting while the actual narrative just kind of drifted along in the background. The tonal shifts between lighthearted hangouts and serious thriller drama donât always blend smoothly either.
By the middle of the series, I was bored. I could only watch a few episodes a day because I just didnât feel that urge to binge. Itâs frustrating because everything around the story, such as the visuals, the designs, and the action, is top notch. I just wish I could say the same thing about the writing. In the end, itâs a beautiful show that I respected more than I actually enjoyed.

This is one of those movies that leaves you impressed and slightly frustrated at the same time. On one hand, the chemistry between Denji and Reze is easily the heart of the film. Their interactions feel tender and awkward, and the quieter moments between them almost make you forget how chaotic this series usually is. Thereâs something genuine about the way their bond develops; it doesnât feel forced, and it gives Denji some emotional depth that goes beyond his usual chaotic energy. The comedic beats between them land naturally too. Itâs not overdone, just enough to make their dynamic charming and believable.
Visually, this movie is
...
on another level. The animation is absolutely insane. The action scenes are fluid, explosive, and beautifully choreographed. You can tell a lot of care went into making every big moment hit hard. The sound design and music also elevate everything, especially during the more intense sequences.
That said, the ending feels kind of abrupt. Itâs emotional, yes, but it doesnât really deliver any huge reveals for the overarching story. I was expecting major plot progression or big answers about the larger narrative. It works as a focused character arc, but as a movie experience, it ends just when it feels like it couldâve gone a bit further. Overall, itâs powerful and beautifully made, just slightly incomplete.

Season two is a step up from the firstâmostly because some long-teased mysteries finally pay off, and the action gets more intense. Shirou starts to come into his own, and thereâs a great moment where he hits rock bottom but keeps going, which really sells his growth.
The characters get a bit more fleshed out this season. Rinâs character arc is a bit of a rollercoasterâby season two sheâs more likable and important, but early on, she felt cold and careless, not that different from villains like Kirei or Kiritsugu. Ironically, Shinji had more integrity than her at the start, but by mid-season theyâve swapped roles
...
completely.
The animation is still high qualityâgreat colors, shading, and depthâbut there are some weird visual moments: awkward side profiles, super sharp chins, oversized eyes that feel outdated, and limbs that sometimes look too thin. Itâs a little distracting given how polished everything else is.
Story-wise, it leans heavily on Fate/Zeroâmaybe a little too much. Some character backgrounds feel copied and pasted, and the show constantly breaks its own rules. Every Fate series seems to have: broken rules, missing servants, and random master/servant swaps. Itâs getting predictable.
While Fate/Zero had stronger side characters and more unique powers, Unlimited Blade Works tells a tighter, more satisfying story. That said, the similarities between the two make it feel a bit like a redo. Maybe that was the pointâbut it does dull the impact a little.
All in all, itâs a solid watch with great visuals, even if some characters feel emotionally flat and the show canât quite shake its clichés.

This show is definitely my thing. Let's divide it up by seasons the way Funimation does. The first season begins in an uncertain atmosphere, darkening the audience's mood and revealing only parts of Ciel's life two years after the meeting with Sebastian. We get to know the characters and how they interact with each other, then some 5 minutes on the introductory video we see Ciel naked with a red cloth and he seems to be talking with a crow. The story, however, is leisurely paced with the focus being on the characters and their conversations.
Others exist only to provide the needed comic relief. Bardroy's
...
cooking disasters, Finnian's failed gardening attempts, and Mey-Rin's clumsiness does add some humor, but they are too one-dimensional. Even Tanaka, who is different from them and has a weird look, is not noticed much for a long time. The main characters are Sebastian and Ciel, who are fortunate to be better than the blundering crowd.
Ciel seems to be an egocentric child in spite of his sophisticated environment. On occasion his decisions does not make sense to others but the decisions seem rational for him. His lust for vengeance, though understandable, seems like a rather worn out cliché that could have been written in a way that was not so predictable.
Sebastian is my top pick among the other characters because he is so self-aware and smart. In contrast to Ciel's habitual mumbling, he would be dealing with all of the issues with ease. Others might say he is too perfect â a typical Mary Sue. However, his indomitable expertise and his resemblance to Ciel's father appeal to the audience and thus add substance to the narrative.
It has an atmosphere similar to Spice and Wolf, where the conversations are of the political nature and set in the Victorian era. However, it has more action up front which keeps the show interesting. The animation stays pretty good, but does not try to create something special or unique, which is a common feature of the era. The CG parts are rare and look good as they blend well with the natural elements and do not go overboard. The hue does not stay drab, but, at the same time, is not oversaturated.
The Japanese voices are good. Some characters' voices feel forced, like May-Rin and Bardroy, but Sebastian's and Ciel's voices hit the mark. The music is a standout, with a dark J-pop opening contrasting the sweeter ending, providing a perfect balance to the show's darkness.

I want to share how great this series is that I've been watching for the past few days and it's called Melodies. It has been around for about 16 years now, and I can assure you, it is a real gem.
Now, if you know another series, The World God Only Knows, you are probably thinking that they have some points in common, but still, they are very different from each other. Initially, both shows may come off as a bit rough around the edges, but by the final season, they really take off.
The narrative is what I find to be the most appealing aspect about
...
Melodies. It is so vast, allowing us to visit different places and times. The central character is a guy called Yuu, who has been through hell recently, and the series deals with his problems and hardships. Not only that, I think Yuu deserves a pat on the back for setting up this refuge for the homeless and orphans in Australia. Such a heartwarming thing!
Also, the animation is improved so much in comparison with the first season. The whole world seems so real and the details are incredible. Oh, and the soundtrack is awesome too! It feels like a rollercoaster ride for the soul, and the music helps to establish the right mood for every scene.
Voice acting?Aces. In short, the actors are like the wind in the characters' sails. And we cannot forget the characters! They are so well-developed and charismatic.Yuu and Yuuko?Absolute gems. However, even the secondary characters are a joy to watch.
Altogether, Melodies stands out as a beautiful and captivating show. Believe me, that it is worth each and every minute of your time.

Honestly, I went into this anime with some pretty high hopes, but in the end, I was left feeling pretty let down. Maybe I was a bit too generous with the score I ended up giving it, but hey, that's just me.
The storyline mostly centers around the usual school life stuff, but with a few quirky twists thrown in. Things seem to be going smoothly for the male lead, who's engaged to a girl, until the final episode comes along and totally drops the ball. It felt incredibly unsatisfying, and I think that's a big part of why I wound up disappointed with the whole
...
thing. It started out strong, building up to something intriguing, but then it all fell apart, leaving us right back where we started with the same old tired drama.
The animation was okay, nothing to write home about. And the music didn't really grab me either, so it didn't get much love from my end. That being said, the character designs were really well done, which got me excited for the show in the first place. Each character had their own distinct personality and felt like a real person, but unfortunately, the storyline just didn't live up to their potential.
Even though the source material might be pretty decent, the anime just didn't do it justice. I keep holding out hope for a remake, but I know how often those dreams end up getting crushed. If you're just looking for something to kill time with, sure, give it a watch, but don't expect to be blown away by the ending.
