WITCHRIV â Hope this series doesn't get axed.
If you remember Hakuri's one-shot manga last year on Shonen Jump Plus, titled "Meririrarariri," this is the manga serialization of it!
The premise is not far enough from the original one-shot, where the young mage Nona Ewin (fka. Meriri/Merrily) lives with her mage mother, Lancia (fka. Rara/Lara), who married a human man. In a world where mages aren't allowed to live, Nona and Lancia had to hide their mage ability from the Bureau of Magic Surveillance (presumably a representation of the witch hunter Danka).
Unlike the one-shot, WITCHRIV twisted the narrative by forcing Nona to evade the Bureau of Magic
...
Surveillance for an extended period, making the Bureau as irredeemably despicable as Danka, if not more so. In her escape with Lancia, Nona fell off from her mother's broomstick, got separated, and met a fellow mage girl named Miramira on a riverbank.
The first arc so far gave the readers only a few spaces to breathe. The suspense remains intense, and we still do not know when our poor mage girls will find a safe place to stay.
In short, just freaking read this manga, guys. Leave appreciation on the author's social media, and make the Japanese readers amazed by the overseas audience. WITCHRIV doesn't deserve to be axed at all.
