When I started reading Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto desu!, I didn't have high hopes because the premise felt like the typical protagonist with a fake facade. But after a few chapters, I realized I was wrong.

The Café Liebe is actually super interesting because it sets the stage for all these different relationships, like the "sister" roles the characters take on. Even though these relationships aren't real, they hold a lot of weight. It's basically a café where they have to act, but it’s fascinating to see how they behave outside of those roles.

Then there’s Hime, who’s honestly the best character in the manga. She’s ... all about putting on an act and doesn’t want to work—she just wants to marry someone rich (and has never been in love). But she ends up working at Café Liebe, where she meets someone connected to a trauma from her past. Hime goes through some amazing character growth as the story progresses.

Yano is the coworker from Hime’s past, and I think she’s just as deep as Hime. Her character is well-developed, especially once you understand her feelings and her own past. The relationship between Yano and Hime is really well done, and both characters grow because of each other.

Then there's Kanoko, Hime's best friend, who’s secretly in love with her. Knowing that Hime can't love anyone back, Kanoko sticks around as her best friend anyway. But as she sees Hime changing because of Yano, she really starts to struggle with her feelings. Kanoko is a super complex character, and her thoughts and actions make her really stand out.

Sumika, who also works at the café, has a cool character arc where she goes from hating romance to loving it, which is fun to watch.

One of my main issues with the manga is that there are certain arcs where it focuses so much on specific characters that it kind of forgets about others for like 30 chapters or more. Even with that, the manga is still great.

It’s a yuri story that focuses on drama but has some really beautiful moments too. The characters are so well-written, and they feel real.

Mediocre at best.

It's a mess, it started of very enjoyable and a with quick start wich made me hope for the best. That however was quickly turned into a drag to read it. Every chapter i had to push myself to read further since i was curious but i just wanted to give it up. Hence why i dropped it after Volume 2. It just isn't worth your time when there are many better yuri manga's out there.

There is nothing outstanding in this manga, the art was fair but didn't save the story with it. I liked the way certain notes explained alot since the ... setting of the story is in a german themed café. Yet every chapter didn't make sence, it was hard to follow and at that point not enjoyable anymore. The only thing that was outstanding was the yuri theme and even that felt poorly executed. I couldn't bring myself to read it anymore.

The motive behind the main girl didn't add up either. However the explanation of the training of the girls in the café was good. It did teach me alot of how these café's work.

It's cute and that the only thing it has to offer.

I read this manga so you don't have to.
Frankly, it's not a good series. It's a crashing and burning train wreck in every sense of the word. But one that you just cannot avert your eyes from. It's so bad, but you want to see the development, you want to see them being happy, you want to see a good ending. But it seems like the characters and the mangaka themselves had other plans in store.

It's filled with forced overbearing melodrama that would make Sasuga Kei's Domestic Girlfriend seem like a fluffy SoL in comparison. Its settings and characters act so unreasonably that would make ... Rent-A-Girlfriend look like a documentary series.

At first, I thought all I had to do was "suspend my disbelief" to enjoy the series. They're taking everything that happens in the cafe so seriously, so maybe I should just roll with them. But oh boy was I wrong, because this was only the tip of the iceberg.

It is obvious from the get-go that the mangaka wanted to make the least likable characters to ever exist. It might seem like a cute and innocent Yuri on the front, but don't be mistaken - Just because there are cute girls on the cover does not mean they will actually act as such.

It's like the author thought on purpose how to make every interaction into a conflict.

* Misunderstandings? Check
* Listening to things out of context which lead to a fight? Check
* Jealousy from side characters that brew more drama? Check
* Convincing each other that they hate each other because of their sexual preferences? Check
* Characters that seem gullible on the outside actively trying to destroy everything and everyone? Check
* Interactions between the main leads that are supposed to be helpful but for some reason end up doing the opposite?
... huh? Check!

I just cannot fathom how it's possible to shove so much melodrama down our throats for absolutely no reason. Characters will hide their true selves behind a hundred masks, then fight each other to take off the masks, and when they do, they'll fight again.

They will fight so much, that you have no idea why they're fighting anymore. What does any one of them want anyways?

Some characters would say one thing, but act in the exact opposite way. The story could have a buildup towards a certain moment, only to flip the entire thing on its head for whatever reason at the end.
Some conversations would go one way, but then get to a different conclusion that makes no sense considering the development, and that conclusion would obviously brew some more drama because why not.

Characters would "support" each other by absolutely demolishing their self-esteem, then give them a hug later on that they're still on their side, with a knife prepared for the next backstab.

Meanwhile, certain characters would do everything in their power to mentally kill anything that would dare stand in their way, just to maintain a "status quo" that is unhealthy for everyone involved, including herself. So she'll destroy others, the ones she "cares about", then self destruct.

Characters would manipulate each other to destroy themselves, alongside anyone else in the near area.

Finally, the story will try to dangle a carrot of "progression" before our eyes, only to loop back to no development because uhhhhh reasons. And that's of course after making sure to flip that carrot a couple times, maybe switch it up with a few other varieties of vegetables, that are probably long rotten. Until it actually comes back to life to try and kill you for sticking with reading it.

I just read about 1,500 pages of this, seeking salvation, but I was sorely disappointed finding out that the only thing left in store was only despair, with a bit of toxicity sprinkled in.

Melodrama isn't necessarily bad. It can be very interesting at times, as long as you keep things moving, spicy, and actually have a goal in mind. But this is not it. It's a mess that just worsens with every passing chapter.

I read this so you don't have to, and I do not recommend it to anyone.
