Akame ga Kill!

Night Raid is the covert assassination branch of the Revolutionary Army, an uprising assembled to overthrow Prime Minister Honest, whose avarice and greed for power has led him to take advantage of the child emperor's inexperience. Without a strong and benevolent leader, the rest of the nation is left to drown in poverty, strife, and ruin. Though the Night Raid members are all experienced killers, they understand that taking lives is far from commendable and that they will likely face retribution as they mercilessly eliminate anyone who stands in the revolution's way.

This merry band of assassins' newest member is Tatsumi, a naïve boy from a remote village who had embarked on a journey to help his impoverished hometown and was won over by not only Night Raid's ideals, but also their resolve. Akame ga Kill! follows Tatsumi as he fights the Empire and comes face-to-face with powerful weapons, enemy assassins, challenges to his own morals and values, and ultimately, what it truly means to be an assassin with a cause.

Ein totalitäres System beutet die Bevölkerung aus - nur ein junger Held kann alle retten! Eine einfache Formel, die hier mit sympathisch wirkenden Assassinen und herrlich boshaften Schurken bereichert wurden. Zum Glück geht es vordergründig nur um die Frage, wen der Held wohl als Erstes knallern wird. So viele Sexanspielungen - direkt und indirekt - lassen ältere Generationen genervt aufstöhnen aber wen juckts. Die Action ist gut inszeniert, ja. Es gibt einigen Splatter, ja. Die Charaktere sind nett, ja. Aber darüber hinaus gibt es nichts, absolut gar nichts, was an die Serie bindet. Im Grunde genommen hat man hier einen 0815 Shonen Anime, der sich ... eher an jüngeres Publikum richtet. Die Story ist Simpel und dadurch leicht verständlich. Ich persönlich hätte mir mehr Plott Twists gewünscht, da die Story mit der Zeit doch größtenteils eher vorhersehbar wurde. Obwohl es am Ende doch eine ganz schöne Überraschung für mich gab.

Versucht ausserdem keine tiefere Bindung zu den Charakteren aufzubauen, vertraut mir, lohnt sich nicht. Sonst bombe. Nichts überwältigendes aber durchwegs witziger Anime. Hat mir gut gefallen und kann ich somit nur empfehlen!

Mixed Feelings

This show is one of the weirdest ones in the anime community. So many people praise it as amazing but it honestly is kind of a weird pervy anime in disguise as something deeper. People talk a lot about this series being dark and realistic because no one is "safe" but that really just makes a hollow story with surface level characters and an unsatisfying ending. Also the world in this story is so bland and one dimensional where the good guys are good and the bad guys are cartoonishly bad to the point of the main group of assassins would never kill anyone without ... good reason so why even call them assassins? The few positive things I would say are that the fights can be pretty cool, the weapons are interesting, and if you do like looking at hot characters this is a good series for you. I wouldn't say its not entirely unenjoyable as I like watching bad series a lot but its definitely not good in a critical sense but can be a fun turn your brain off goofy time.

This is a rather low-quality yet classic example of a shounen anime. Dozens of dialogues are included without purpose, conveying nothing and serving only to make the characters appear cool or to forcefully advance a weak plot. These dialogues often feel as illogical as if they were written by a 10-year-old. There is no character development. Even putting that aside, the anime is poor overall. Stronger and stronger enemies keep appearing, but somehow they are defeated abruptly. Everything happens so suddenly that we don’t even get a chance to see the impact on the characters. The series lacks meaningful content, and when you finish it, ... there’s nothing to say like, “Wow, this anime taught me something,” or, “This anime really entertained me with a unique feature.”
