based on shakespeare’s play king lear, ran, is a must see film. every frame is concise and poetic and adding kurosawa’s perfect directing, it becomes a masterpiece. set designs, backgrounds, the sights; the costumes were amazing. you can just stop the film for a moment to take a shot out of it and admire it on it’s own as a whole art piece.
a lord that had lived a life in power and wealth as a feared and respected man;…
“you’re supposed to stand for something. you’re supposed to protect people — but instead you fuck and murder them.”
i think it’s a underrated movie that reflects the corrupted parts of the justice system and one of the bests after to kill a mockingbird. in the trial scene, he makes a choice between his profession and ethics, shows how meaningless the phrase "justice for all", which is the slogan of the american justice system, really is.
the scene where al pacino crashes out at the parking lot made me realise how fucking wonderful his acting is all over again and he’s easily one of my favourites.
only watched two of mandico’s films but he’s definitely one of the weirdest, most avan-garde, grotesque film makers ever. he brings the theme of death with nature metaphors and an obscene form of expression.
film, is about walerian borowczyk - a tribute to his life and erotic art. it’s a sequence and glimpses of surreal and sexual frames. “boro in the box” is an allegory of psychosexual fantasy and voyeurism. it was similar to a cronenbergian body horror and therefore quite discomforting.
maybe i am just a hater but either way im surprised that letterboxd community is astonished by this movie, this is not a masterpiece, not even close. just the same old jokes we’ve been heard thousand times before. same cheesy jokes as the ones in the martian or the marvel movies and it’s almost the same as interstellar but not even good at it.
