Is the film about identity, mental illness, relationships, compulsions, voyeurism, grief, addiction or all of the above?

Captivating, measured and shocking. Cronenberg Jr gives us these dream like visuals that slowly warp into a nightmare. These are aided by these realistic and shocking moment of violence. Deep red blood smears the clinically clean sets and stains your mind.

The special effects are incredible. The violence is as shocking thanks to the very realistic effects. The merging of mind and body…

Project Hail Mary

A really fun, high-concept sci-fi that’s easy to get pulled into, even if it drags a little in the middle.

It’s packed with ideas — science puzzles, problem-solving, constant “how do we fix this?” energy — and when it’s firing, it’s hard to put down. The structure works well too, slowly revealing things while keeping momentum going.

Valerie Leon is the film. Cold, hypnotic, and just slightly off in a way that keeps you locked in. You’re never fully sure what you’re watching — and that’s where the film gets…

Is there any way to give a movie 6 out of 5 on Letterboxd?

Masterpiece.

Special Effects

A proper Larry Cohen oddity — low budget, high concept, and just messy enough to make it interesting.

Special Effects has a great hook: filmmaking, manipulation, blurred reality, all wrapped up in that scrappy, anything-goes Cohen style. It never feels polished, but that’s part of the charm. You can feel the ideas pushing through the limitations.

The performances are… hit and miss. Some moments land, others feel a bit off, but it kind of suits the film’s rough edges. This…
