The Fate series’ signature hour-long exposition opening. Production values are top-tier, and the character designs look much better than Takeuchi’s original drafts (except for Gilgamesh, whose face seems to oscillate between handsome and off-putting). The sheer volume of dialogue is, as usual, overwhelming, and the chuunibyou energy is as strong as ever. What puzzles me is that this isn’t a ufotable production, yet the script still feels just as sluggish. The Holy Grail War’s rules are simple—it’s just a…
My first thought after watching the Reze arc film is that I’d bump the TV series down to a 6. It’s clearly better than the TV version (though part of that is due to the higher production standards of a theatrical release), but it’s not quite an 8. When it comes to *Chainsaw Man*, all I want is pure insanity—trying to apply critiques like the male gaze or the objectification of women here is completely missing the point. If…
This was my first Chantal Akerman film. True to the art-house tradition, it emphasizes visual composition over camerawork, framing over editing, and emotion over intellectual comprehension. The pacing is extremely slow, there are numerous static long takes, and much of the information is conveyed through wordless actions. The early dialogue also meanders casually. While one can sense the psychological layers from the characters’ states, it’s only in the latter half that these layers gradually come into focus. When I…
A fantastic popcorn blockbuster—this was my first *Mission: Impossible* film, and it was an absolute blast. The action set pieces are refreshingly inventive, the use of technology is sharp and efficient, and the editing is cleverly crafted. Sure, there are logical loopholes and familiar formulaic beats, but the sheer exhilaration of the overall experience makes them easy to overlook. For a film like this, the only review that really matters is whether it’s entertaining—everything else is beside the point.
