The Office of Human Resources offers many opportunities for supervisors and managers to learn new skills and to develop existing skills. New supervisors are encouraged to start with the required trainings and follow up with the suggested courses. For more experienced supervisors and managers, there are many courses focusing on areas such as interpersonal competencies, organization development and performance management.

BEST: Blueprint for Engaged Supervision Training

Required training for supervisors

Every front-line supervisor of SHRA employees at the University will participate in this training. This training is offered by Organization and Professional Development and is part of being in compliance with the Chancellor’s expectations of the work environment at Carolina. The BEST program emphasizes practical and basic needs of all supervisors, allowing new supervisors the opportunity to reflect on the issues, functions and challenges involved in leadership roles and supporting their professional development.

ULEAD: University Leadership Education & Development

Organization & Professional Development offers the University Leadership Education and Development (ULEAD) program, an intense program for high-potential, high-performing UNC-Chapel Hill, NC Central University and General Administration managers.


Lead Well

The Organization and Professional Development team is launching Lead Well, a dynamic leadership development program tailored for managers at Carolina. Lead Well offers managers an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills through an in-depth examination of essential topics, including building trust and engagement, promoting employee development, creating a sense of belonging and psychological safety, managing change effectively, among others.

The program is bracketed by two instructor-led sessions, a variety of self-paced elearning courses, and practical discovery guides, all designed to assist managers in reflecting on their practices, addressing challenges, and implementing best practices for transformative leadership.

Exceptional Onboarding

Welcoming a new team member is a crucial responsibility for a manager, and this self-paced course for managers will help you recognize how onboarding influences an employee’s successful future, create an onboarding plan and set up your employee for success in their new role.
