To continue building a workplace where everyone feels valued and heard, the Stay Interview Survey Program gives employees a chance to share what makes UNC a great place to work — and what could make it even better. The goal is to understand what keeps employees engaged and what improvements can be made to enhance retention and satisfaction. We want to hear from you because your experience matters.

About the Stay Survey Interview Program

The Stay Interview Survey Program is a proactive initiative designed to gather feedback from UNC-Chapel Hill employees about their work experience to understand what keeps employees engaged and what improvements can be made to enhance retention and satisfaction.

The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. Your responses are anonymous and will be reviewed in aggregate to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Individual responses will not be shared with supervisors or departments.

Feedback from the survey will help HR and leadership teams:
  • Identify strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Develop targeted retention strategies.
  • Enhance employee engagement and satisfaction.

While change takes time, your input will directly inform campus-wide initiatives and departmental improvements. Updates and progress will be shared through HR communications and leadership channels.

Who can participate?

All UNC-Chapel Hill employees that are permanent staff and faculty (SHRA, EHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty) can participate. Employee and Management Relations will send the survey to participants based on their hire date, beginning with individuals hired within the last five years. EMR will administer the survey on a bi-annual basis. Employees within the corresponding date range of each survey administration will receive an email with a link to the survey.


What is on the survey?

The survey includes questions about:

  • What you enjoy most about working at UNC.
  • Challenges you face in your role.
  • Opportunities for growth and development.
  • Your suggestions for improving the workplace.

How to take the Stay Survey

The Stay Interview Survey is a brief electronic survey that can be completed on any device. An electronic survey allows us to reach more employees across campus efficiently and anonymously and provides a convenient way for you to share your thoughts without scheduling a meeting or taking time away from your daily responsibilities.

You will receive a link to the survey via your UNC email. Every employee will have an opportunity to complete the survey. The survey will be administered based on an employee’s date of hire and will be distributed based on five-year increments of hire dates (ex: employees hired between 2020 and 2025). While you may not immediately receive an email invitation to complete the survey, please watch your email inbox as you will likely receive an invitation in the future as the goal is to invite every campus employee to complete the survey.
