This is a known issue where the camera preview renders at high resolution, but the captured frame gets heavily compressed before submission. Here are the most effective workarounds to pass verification:

So I am having trouble uploading the document. I use the financial aid and scholarship award notification. It clearly has my name that matches the account and billing address, and it shows the current 2026-2027 award letter dated June 26, 2026. It has letterhead and everything. I keep getting that "Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your last name exactly as it appears in your GitHub Billing information". "Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your first name exactly as it appears in your GitHub billing information. " It's addressed to me and matches billing. "Your image contains keywords indicating that it may be an acceptance letter. Only proof of current academic enrollment is acceptable." It's a financial aid award notification letter for current enrollment. And "You are unlikely to be verified until you have completed your GitHub user profile with your full name exactly as it appears in your academic affiliation document." My first and last name are spelled correctly. I can upload any document, and this is what I'm getting. They say you can upload multiple but I do not see it. I tried printing it out and taking a picture; I even tried my syllabus and classes for summer ending the 14th. Would any advice help? I double check and I know how to type my correct name E*** N****** but saying it's not showing is crazy. The document was sent to me by mail as well. It has letterhead on it as well. UNLV |

Verification Help & Guidance
Hi everyone,
Hi everyone,
I am trying to apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
My application was rejected because the academic document image was considered unreadable. The issue is that my document looks clear in the camera preview, but after I capture it through the GitHub Education verification page, the resulting image becomes noticeably blurry and the text is difficult to read.
I have an official English enrollment verification document that clearly shows my full name, university name, current enrollment status, and date. I also have an official student certificate. However, the application flow does not allow me to upload the original PDF directly, only to capture the document using the camera.
I have already updated my GitHub profile name to match my academic documents, enabled two-factor authentication, and completed my billing information.
Is there a recommended workaround for the blurry camera capture issue? Would it be possible to allow direct PDF or high-quality image uploads for academic verification?
I have also seen other students reporting the same issue, where the document is clear before capture but blurry afterward.
Thank you.
