A personal collection of JCL jobs, COBOL programs, and a custom COBOL compiler setup designed to run on IBM's MVS 3.8 environment. This repository serves both as an archive and a reference hub for enthusiasts of classic mainframe systems.
- JCL/ — Sample Job Control Language scripts for batch job automation, dataset manipulation, and system setup.
- COBOL/ — A library of COBOL programs written and tested under MVS 3.8, covering data processing, string handling, and I/O routines.
- COMPILER/ — A fixed version of the compiler to allow the BCOB programs to be loaded in a load dataset.
To run these jobs and programs, you'll need:
- A working MVS 3.8 system with HERCULES TK5 emulator:
- Check out our Youtube Tutorial on how to Install the Hercules Emulator https://youtu.be/Q2lICoXmY2E
- DOWNLOAD MVS TK5 FROM https://www.prince-webdesign.nl/index.php/software/mvs-3-8j-turnkey-5
- INSTALL X3270
- TSO access or an equivalent batch environment - Simply use the HERC01 ADMIN on the MVS 3.8 System
- Familiarity with submitting jobs via JES2 queue
- Familiarity with allocating and managing datasets on a mainframe environment.
Allocate your datasets libraries as I have set mine you can use HERC01.TEST.CNTL as a template from mvs 3.8
- MJ.DEVREL01.BCOB
- MJ.DEVREL01.COPYBOOK
- MJ.DEVREL01.JCL
- MJ.DEVREL01.CNTL
- ALLOCATE PDS MJ.DEVREL01.LOADLIB using HERC01.TEST.LOADLIB as a template
- Create a new MEMBER in SYS2.PROCLIB and call it COBUCL2
- Copy from this repository SYS2.PROCLIB COBUCL2.txt into your new member.
- COPY from this repository the @COMPILE from MJ.DEVREL01.BCOB
Browse to the desired directory, review the code, and submit jobs through your emulator's preferred method. Some JCL files require editing parameters like JOBNAME or DSN before execution.
