Ok, I find no way to override the linker so that it does not search the current directory first. I think it is best, and probably in the spirit of visual studio, to use the "reference" part of a project to facilitate linking between dependency projects. it is designed to take the hassle out of libraries and search paths. I will add references where they are missing.
