Overview
Health centers care for more than 1 in 5 Medicaid beneficiaries nationally, and half of health center patients are Medicaid beneficiaries. Not only are health centers’ doors open to all, regardless of ability to pay or insurance status, they generate incredible value to the health care system. In 2023 alone, CHCs saved Medicaid $38.6 billion by providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary primary care. On average, health centers save 24% of health care costs per Medicaid beneficiary when compared to other providers.
A note about Medicaid Unwinding:
During the Medicaid unwinding, 23% of health center patients covered by Medicaid were estimated to have been unenrolled. Outreach and enrollment work are fundamental to the Community Health Center’s mission.
